We’d heard secrets of a magical sauna place with magnificent lake views and multiple hot tubs and saunas but we thought it was too good to be true. We then finally got an invite to this mysterious spot and it definitely exceeded our expectations! We took the 2c bus out to the middle of nowhere and then had to walk for around 30 minutes until we reached the reception.

We were directed to the tiny changing rooms and were left to explore. Villa Järvelä Oy has a sauna attached to the changing rooms/ shower area which we like best as it is always the quietest and we can control the temperature to our liking. There is another larger sauna which is extremely hot- definitely an authentic Finnish experience! It is aptly nicknamed ‘The Incinerator’ by the exchange students. Finally there is a sauna in a tent which is a lot cooler and a small more atmospheric sauna with a fire. There is also two large hot tubs which we spend most of our time in when we go here.

The best part of this place is that you can jump into a freezing cold lake after a hot sauna. There is a pier which stretches out onto the lake and last week the water temperature was 1 degrees celcius!
It has become our Sunday ritual to come here as it is such a good destress after a hard week of working on the project. We usually go at around 3pm and stay until closing which is 10pm on Sundays. There is also the opportunity to buy sausages and cook them on the fire in the reception which makes for a wholesome dinner. We highly recommend this sauna to anyone visiting Turku as it has quickly become our favourite!
