As we arrived in Finland we luckily managed to catch the end of summer. We spent our days at Ruissalo beach, one of the islands in the Finnish archipelago. The Finnish archipelago is the largest in the world and boasts stunning landscapes so if you get the chance to visit we would highly recommend!! The Foli bus reaches as far as Ruissalo so it is super easy to get there.

At the beach we cooked a mountain of delicious mystery meats on a BBQ with our Finnish friends Valtteri and Santeri, bathed in the baltic sea (which was not so baltic!) and killed it at beach volleyball.

We cooked smores and saw the stars once we had watched the sun go down. It was very dreamy.

We also went to a freshers beach party at Ispoinen Beach. This beach has a sauna (which is around €5) and a jetty so you can jump into the cold sea afterwards! The finns have a tradition of drinking jaloviina (Finnish cut brandy/ sauna juice) in saunas which was wholly embraced by the students of Turku. The sauna was a great place to socialise and taking a dip in the baltic sea afterwards was exhilarating.
The 25 degree heat in Finland was definitely a surprise to us all but was extremely welcomed and was the best way to start out our stay in Finland. The sun, sea and sauna experience was incredible and is definitely a memory which will stay with us forever. We feel so fortunate to have had the experience of the finnish summer!
